GEO-INFORMATION ANALYST

Under the supervision of the Director of UNU-INRA, the Geo-Information Analyst will:
- Acquire, process and analyze geo-information data related to UNU-INRA’s research and training in natural resources management, biodiversity conservation and climate change;
- Develop proposals for research and training events, awareness workshops and technology transfer in the field of geo-spatial information together with UNU-INRA's partners an d submit these for (co-)funding by external donor agencies;
- Assist in the development and management of distance education and general information services, such as library, website and other electronic means of dissemination of information; and
- Perform any other duties as may be assigned by the Director of UNU-INRA.

Under the supervision of the Director of UNU-INRA, the Socio-economist will:
- Contribute to the design and implementation UNU-INRA's activities related to research and training in natural resources management, biodiversity conservation and climate change;
- Conduct on-farm research, create awareness, train national collaborators, and provide guidelines for effective implementation of projects jointly conducted with international and national partners;
- Prepare research and training proposals for funding; plan, organize and participate in national and sub-regional conferences/meetings/workshops.
- Provide guidance and technical support for empirical research and analytical studies on human security, with particular reference to gender, equity and poverty issues, as well as socioeconomic and environmental sustainability of agricultural production systems; and
- Perform any other duties as may be assigned by the Director of UNU-INRA.

ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY ANALYST

Under the supervision of the Director of UNU-INRA, the Environmental Policy Analyst will:
- Conduct studies and analyze a wide range of environmental policy issues to help UNU-INRA to achieve its goals and objectives;
- Conduct field or desk research, create awareness, train national collaborators, and provide guidelines for effective implementation of global environmental legal frameworks and treaties, with a view to ensuring sustainable management of natural resources, biodiversity conservation and maintenance of environmental quality.
- Research, develop and recommend policies, procedures and guidelines with a view to translating the objectives of international environmental conventions to various sub-regional levels in Africa, as well as national/governmental level organizations; and develop and produce strategic, economic and regulatory advice on environmental policy to industry, regulators, governments and sub-regional bodies in Africa.
- Prepare research and training proposals for funding; plan, organize and participate in national and sub-regional conferences/meetings/workshops, prepare policy briefs on UNU-INRA research and training activities for dissemination to policy-makers.
- Perform any other policy-related duties as may be required by the Director of UNU-INRA.

Responsibilities:
The Director is the chief academic and administrative officer of UNU-INRA and has overall responsibility for the direction, organization, administration and programmes of the Institute on behalf of and under the authority of the Rector of the UNU.
Required qualifications:
- A Ph.D. in agronomy or a field directly related to natural resource conservation and
management.
- Strong background of research and publications, a prominent profile in the relevant academic
community and a proven record of effective leadership and management experience at a senior level in an academic/research institution.
- A proven track record of fund-raising for international projects is essential.
- Ability to work in a multicultural environment and a deep commitment to the issues of human
development and welfare.
- Fluency in English is essential and a working knowledge of other UN official languages,
particularly French, is desirable.
